physical.

I'm getting fit this week.

Yep, 'cause it only takes one week.

It's not going so well.

I get kitted up in my running gear. Grab my iPhone, headphones, and skipping rope, (I'm auditioning for a musical on the weekend and skipping is required) drop my house key in a secret spot (don't be silly…it's not under the door mat or pot plant…nice try) put on my favourite musical track (most people listen to death metal or something upbeat…I usually listen to musical tracks) and then I run for a short to medium length of time.

I remember a teacher at school one day telling our class she'd only just learnt how to run. The difficulty was realising that you need to use opposite arm to leg. I try and do same arm to leg sometimes when I'm really living dangerously. It's exhilarating.

Anyway, that's beside the point. I can run, just not very fast.

The other day I was feeling a bit anxious and realised it was because I hadn't done any exercise for a good 72 hours (yep…this fitness thing is working a treat...).

So I kitted up (surely I don't need to describe the process again) and jogged to my nearby park. I had about half an hour before I needed to head home to get ready for my mate's birthday party.

I got to the park and stopped near a path. Hard surfaces are necessary for skipping.

Actually, looking for a hard skipping surface has become an obsession. At my parents' place last weekend, we were all standing on the well kept driveway and waving as my step-bros were leaving. My vocals were saying, "Seeya guys!" but really, while it looked like I was looking at my step brothers, I was really looking at the driveway saying, "wow that's a nice piece of pavement…I'd totally skip that".

Going back to the park scene - I stopped and started doing some stretches. I can't just do a standard calf stretch and be done. I dance, so this means I need to bend right down, touch my toes and then stretch my hip flexes and my gluts.

On this particular occasion, I was wearing rather short shorts. It was a hot day.

Anyway, it was when I was enjoying a good hamstring stretch when I realised there were voices behind me.

From a bended position, I stood up and turned around to where the voices were coming from and realised some of the fences on the border of the park were quite low.

I was about 10 metres from a green, picket like fence, so could easily see what was going on behind it.

An entire family was enjoying an afternoon barbecue as I was most likely flashing my knickers.

There were two things I could have done.

1. Wave and smile awkwardly.
2. Ignore them and continue stretching and perhaps even throw in the odd yoga move (the bird of paradise is my favourite).
3. Run like the wind.

You're right, there were three things.

Yep. I ran home like the frikkin' wind….well more so like a slow summer breeze.

I grabbed my key from a secret rock with a special key compartment and called it a day.

(The End….ps. the YouTube link in last week's blog now works…)
