poetical?
AND...I'm back. I went to a wedding last weekend and I thought...this place looks kind of country (Gunnedah, NSW) I think the experience calls for a bush poem.
Now I've never really dabbled into bush poetry, but as far I can see, you just have to make the iambic pentameter (or whatever the equivalent for bush poetry is) a bit more bouncy...and hope that the reader will have a real laid back internal monologue voice going on...."There was movement at the station, for the word had got around...) and then try and throw in some rhymes...hopefully to the tune of ABAB or at least ABCB. Anyway, let's give it a crack (insert whip noise here).
A Country Wedding

I'm glad I wasn't driving,
Because it did take all day,
My little bro was whinging,
Pretty much the whole way.
But finally as the day passed,
I could see the town in sight.
A big drive from Brisbane,
But too close to catch a flight.
In the lead-up to the wedding,
We made sure we got all spruced,
Nails and face and hair done,
It gave me quite the boost.
We waited patiently in the church,
While the groom at the alter stood,
"Sorry Nick...she's not coming," we joked,
Although, we knew she would.
She was looking stunning,
He was looking grand,
It was the perfect weather,
For her to take his hand.
They signed all the documents,
After she got the ring,
Finally I got to go to the microphone,
And I would get to sing.
Things went according to plan,
It was the reception I made out of hand,
I realised, a little tiddly on the bus,
I'd forgot the microphone and stand.
Racing to and fro in the garden,
A mic I was trying to see,
There was not one locatable.
Did I mention I was emcee?
Finally I found one,
It was a saving grace,
I got my act together,
And my breathing slowed its pace.
Googling didn't help,
When I searched for an opening joke,
I asked everyone for their thoughts,
Otherwise I'd choke.
Fortunately there was a bird show,
On the same weekend,
I used a "kill two birds with one stone" line,
And they were in the palm of my "hen."
So one thing led to another,
And if I've kept you reading all the way,
Thanks for your patience,
You won't get the time back another way.
Perhaps I'll stick to limericks,
Because that's the sure-fire trick,
To work out the perfect ryhming,
Cos' this bush writing makes me sick!
(alternative ending: Cos' I'm no country hick. - hmmm like a "pick-a-path" you may choose the ending)

A while ago I thought I invented hairspray for your face. WELL....our makeup artist used it on our faces before the wedding. It was awesome! ...I'm so clever.
Great Maree- May I include it in their Family History Notes? Olivia's Aunty Robin
